We couldn’t let this year disappear without giving our spin on the 2016 election, specifically Donald, Hillary and Bernie.
Once all the votes were counted, America actually elected Gene Simmons – The Demon from KISS – for president: the overtly-misogynistic, unapologetically-racist from New York with just a touch of narcissism.
While most people think they’re an absolute joke, both Trump and Simmons have a blindly loyal fan base willing to buy anything said – or endorsed – by them. Never forget:
The voice, the hair, the eye makeup…Donald Trump’s not the devil, he’s The Demon!
Still don’t believe us? Who said the following quotes: the president-elect or The Demon?
1: “I play into people’s fantasies. People may not always think big themselves, but they can still get very excited by those who do. That’s why a little hyperbole never hurts. People want to believe that something is the biggest and the greatest and the most spectacular.”
2: “I realized very early on that power is what I really wanted…fame & riches are fine, but one can have both and still have no power.”
3: “I want to have women want me, although not necessarily because I want them. Women understand this notion very well. A woman wants to make herself as attractive as she can, with makeup, clothing, and perfume, because she wants every man to want her, although she may not be interested in any of them. I realize I’m painting with broad strokes here, but I stand by what I’m saying.”
4: “We’ve never made any bones about the fact that the American dream is not only about fame, but also riches.”
Answer: Does it really matter?!*
The people have spoken, let’s make America KISS again!
*Trump: 1; Simmons: 2,3,4
Hillary reminds us of Joe Walsh:
- Both are best known for their time with a group. But their work before and after showcases their true talents as leaders:
- Joe will always be known as a former-Eagle just like Hillary will always be the former first lady, though their solo work was arguably better…
- Both ran a losing presidential bid…twice:
- Joe ran for president in 1980 promising “Free Gas for Everyone”… and changing the national anthem to “Life’s Been Good.”
- Joe tried again in ’92, this time as VP and with the platform of “We Want Our Money Back!” But like Hillary, Joe never won the Electoral College…
…and c’mon, they obviously share the same stylist:
Finally, we can’t talk about 2016 without mentioning Bernie.
A man who inspired various generations with his fresh outlook.
A true force of passion and energy that challenged and eventually strengthen Clinton….and definitely made the party great again!
Of course, we’re talking about Bernie Worrell and his impact on not just (George) Clinton, but all things P-Funk. Not only did Bernie serve as musical director for the endless iterations Parliament-Funkadelic throughout the ‘70s, he also became a de facto Talking Head in the ‘80s.
Bernie spent the remainder of his long career in high demand as chairman of the boards in both the studio and on the road with various jam, funk and jazz ensembles. His versatility had him playing with everyone from The Pretenders, Mos Def, Les Claypool and even Meryl Streep…Bernie had range…
Sounds created by Bernie – particularly in songs like “Atomic Dog” and “Flash Light” – have been sampled countless times by artists like Dr. Dre, 2Pac, Ice Cube, Salt-N-Pepa, UGK, Digital Underground…basically all late ‘80s/early ‘90s rap. Hell, Snoop Dogg’s “Who Am I (What’s My Name),” contains at least four P-Funk samples alone.
Sadly, in June of 2016 – not long after Bernie Sanders hung it up – Bernie Worrell decided to call this universe quits, boarding the Mothership to sprinkle a little funk on heaven.
RIP Bernie…and RIP 2016.
